A friend who use to be a 'mod' in the sixties and has visited US and Canada asked if I would post his poem to an American biker site - so true to my word, here it is.
Oh Ramona!
Oh Ramona! is it true,
Chicken Dave's in love with you?
Oh Ramona! it's not fair
Buck teeth, glasses and stupid hair
Does he really stand a chance?
He says he'll see you at the dance
Oh Ramona! is it true,
You're in love with Johnny Drew?
We don't blame you, he's so cool
He's enough to make you drool
Is this the start of a true romance?
Will he take you to the dance?
Oh Ramona! is it true?
Chicken Dave's upset with you?
He feels jilted, scarred, betrayed
A victim of the trick you played
Oh Ramona! Dangerous game
Maybe you are not to blame.
Oh Ramona! you're so rare
lovely figure, sensuous stare,
pristine beauty wonderous face
Classic bearing, hellenic grace
The boys will want you, this is true,
They are all aware of you
Oh Ramona! is it true
Dave has challenged Johnny Drew
He's acquired a powerful bike
We have never seen the like
Chicken Dave, and not for fun
Challenged Johnny Drew to Chicken Run
Oh Ramona! stop it please
We are begging on our knees
They will ride the bikes, it's said
Til one of them ends up dead,
Across the main road riding blind,
Please Ramona Please be kind
Oh Ramona! we're in black
Dave and Johnny wont come back
Dying on their Chicken Run
Done for honour, not for fun,
But in our hearts, we are so blue,
Both died for the love of you.
